Style sheets: Part 1 - link rel - Give your users a choice Effective Controls for Attaining Continuous Application Security Throughout the Web Application Development Life Cycle

In the last couple days, I’ve run across some excellent posts that I think every professional blogger and webmaster must read. Initially, I started out posting each one individually, but that got tedious and really made no sense. It was like I was doing the job of the SmartRSS plugin and not really posting anything worthwhile, just links to other articles.

So, to make things a little more interesting and to make keeping track a little easier for readers, I present to you the following round up in one post…

Excerpt from The 4 Pillars of Writing Exceptional Blogs:

Too often it seems that we bloggers get caught up in worrying about monetizing our blogs, or the design of the blog, or SEO techniques — but although it may sound trite, the major focus of our time should be on our writing.

Comments: In the above article, Leo Babauta from Zen Habits posted an outstanding primer on how to build a great blog. I really like his focus on content and not design and monetization. He makes some very valid points that I needed to read and I believe many others need to read as well. His post is definitely among the top 5 articles I recommend every webmaster should read.

Excerpt from 8 Powerful Ways To Add Value To Your Blog:

A “detour” is a “deviation from a direct course of action”. Given the perspective of this blog, providing value in and within each post is somewhing we strive for and given the nature of our personal life (medical internship/journalism), this is far from being a possible task. This is where I see many bloggers succumb to the universal blogger problem…

Comments: Yet another exceptional post, written by “Yan”, on how to enhance the quality and value of your website/blog. Personally, I feel that there is some good, practical advice in the above article that will not only enhance the value of your site, but also some very good suggestions on ethical writing. Like the previous article, I will be turning to the above on a regular basis to help me stay on track in my webmaster career. Very useful material.

Excerpt from Guest Blogging 101:

North x East has a helpful post titled Why Guest Blogging is a Powerful Way to Gain Exposure for Your Blog which makes a good companion piece to some of my own posts from a few months back on Guest blogging:

Why Guest Bloggers are Great for a Blog
How to Find a Guest Blogger for Your Blog
How to Get Guest Blogging Jobs
How to Be a Good Guest Blogger

Have you been a guest blogger? How did you find the experience? Have you had guest bloggers on your blog? What were the benefits and costs?

Comments: In essence, the above post by Darren Rowse is a mini round up in its own right. However, this is a subject I’ve been preaching on for some time now and it was great to read what others had to say about the subject. IMHO, one of the greatest social strengths of the Blog platform is the ability to allow others to contribute. It was nice to read that “experts” agree with this viewpoint.

And don’t forget, Guest bloggers are always welcome at MyWebResource ;-)

That’s it for this edition of the mini round up. I hope you find the above posts as informative and useful as I have.

Enjoy!
